Really enjoyed reading this! It's really refreshing to find someone with similar views on the theatricality and pressures of weddings.

Tally ho! What on earth do we have here? This pseudo-academical plebian has created one of the most spectacularly pitiful incel manifestos known to man. Wait until Jonty Bonty and the other chaps from the yacht club hear of this failed writer/human being. I have seen declarations of landed property in the Charterhouse School library that are shorter than this. And all because you can't find a wife. Oh sorry, """"don't wish to find a wife"""" Which you put down to some mystical all-encompassing politico-social-economical-cultural-magical phenomenon and not your lack of a sports car and a family seat in Surrey.

By the way, I was in Serbia recently (clerical work for the legit branch of daddy's offshore hedgefund) and I met Tito. He is not a fan of your work. Good day!

Another immature, unintelligible crock of shit, from this self-hating brown man, insecure in who he is, unmarriagable, unanchored, unable to truly, deeply comprehend his own or anyone's culture, unaware of the richness of Urdu and Persian adab, lacking the linguistic and cultural skills to access them; now 30 and lonely, yet still looking for 'the' radical cause, circa sixth form college in 2010. Marriage will remain as sure as you will remain alone or in temporary arrangements (where you can play the victim). Most people grow out of student politicising, some apparently don't. Go glue yourself to a work of art in Berlin bro with Extinction Rebellion or go be yourself in your own one man commune in Sweden.

"For those of us fortunate to live in the more socially liberal enclaves of the world". looooooooooooooooooolp.

Wat Bro? You ok? Every mandem in India and Pakistan and Africa wants to be like you: 'fortunate' because you live in the social and moral superiority of Europe? lololol.

You sound like a wannabe Macaulay (look him up because you sure haven't read him) or a Churchill. You sound like you passed the Civil Service Exams in Lucknow in 1911, and have now bought in. You sound like the evangelicals post 1857 who wanted to improve in their own image the native morality. You sound like every commentator who is now an expert on Qatar and their supposed moral failings, while overlooking the the failings of their own countries.

In short, you sound like a colonial believing in the superiority of the current Anglo-European status quo over the East (or anything that disagrees with them). You're now a fully paid up member of the liberal capitalist system you profess to hate. Congrats.

Ok, so you got yourself a temporary gorri in Berlin. Have fun. Perhaps she nods dutifully to your writing in a performative piece of feminine action that you profess to hate (because, newsflash, females know how to feminine). Perhaps, she makes you a somosa sometimes, perhaps not, eh? Let's see where you're at in 10 years. Probs still with 3 followers, tbh.

Thank you for the interest in the essay.

I could definitely try exploring this further but if anything, marriage tends to favour men institutionally. Roman marital customs are a particularly acute example of how marriage entrenches rights of men over women as personal property.

So in a superficial sense there’s some negative side effects of modern marital practice for men, but in a general historical sense marriage is a patriarchal instrument of female subjugation.
